Work with Us

Follow our progress by joining the KBase users mailing list:

Email outreach@kbase.us and we will match you with a KBase team member who can answer your specific collaboration questions.

KBase is a collaborative effort designed to accelerate our understanding of microbes, microbial communities and plants through the implementation of a community science-driven, extensible and scalable open-source software framework and application system. It is being created by science-oriented developers focused on predictive biology. Modern biology requires data generation, data integration and analysis, and then validation of predictions. KBase will offer free and open access to data, models and simulations, enabling scientists and researchers to build new knowledge and share their findings.

KBase is building a strong group of collaborators to meet the needs of the community and to leverage existing efforts rather than duplicate them. The science teams will collaborate to encapsulate and develop powerful algorithms and workflows for predictive modeling of biological function together with the infrastructure team that ensures maximal accessibility and scalability of KBase capability for the larger community. The success of KBase depends not only on producing a large-scale open computational capability for systems biology research data management and analysis, but also on positioning these tools to be used by the community. KBase is actively looking for collaborators who provide data, those who are tool builders, and those who are users of both data and tools. Users will interact with KBase via the submission of new experimental data (e.g., microarrays, RNAseq, Biolog arrays, mutant phenotypes) or the integration of new analysis techniques and algorithms. All data and algorithms integrated into KBase will be fully accredited to the source.

We look forward to working with your team in areas such as...

Beta Testing

Become a beta tester of KBase capabilities. Our first public developer release is coming soon.

Developing Tools

We will coordinate efforts on bioinformatic tool development to ensure that they are compatible with the KBase API and so that they might benefit future research endeavors.

Meeting Standards and Metadata Formats

Collaborators will work with KBase developers to ensure that appropriate standards and metadata formats for gene annotation are met.

Modeling

KBase is currently developing modeling services for co-expression networks, regulatory networks and metabolic modeling, and we will be interested in incorporating your model formalisms into the resource.

Submitting Data

Your team can contribute data, workflow enhancements, and expertise to KBase to make them available to other researchers.
